my computer was broken in a car accident. can the insurance co. pay for repair directly or send me a check?

i need my computer repaired after a car accident and some data transfered. is it possible that they might pay the repair company where i got an estimate directly or do they have to send me the check?
please read question carefully. i’m asking about whether or not they are required to pay me with a check or if it is possible that they can pay the repair company directly. i want to make sure i can use the money how i see fit. i already know i’m getting the money.
