I want to get into the business of repairing broken/faulty computers & laptops, as well as general computer maintenance ie. upgrading, virus removal, restoring computers to their original settings, etc… I don’t have any qualifications or experience. So what would be the best courses to go on?

You would deffinatly have to take some courses either at a community college or online. Just search for schools/courses to repair and upgrade computers. These days you can take almost any course online. That is a really complex job though! Try the ITT technical institute website.

To acquire knowledge: Talk to your teachers, local community colleges, universities and people already in the business for good advice. Subscribe to PC magazines, buy computer repair books or go to the Library, use Google, visit “How-To” websites like:

To acquire experience: Volunteer to fix computers for friends and family or at the Salvation Army store, for example. Scoop up old PC’s people put out on garbage day and try to fix them. Review Hardware Questions here and TRY to answer them before you read the Best Answers.

These are just a starting point, I’m sure you can come up with other great ideas, too.

Acing your A+ Certification exam would be a good start!

Contact a local Community College and look-up the info for the appropriate technical courses/fields.

Incidentally…playing with computers is dead simple…laptops are a pain in the posterior…even doing it correctly, you can cause “fatal” damage.

Good Luck
